Join us for a morning of free family fun to celebrate reading and the arts!

Saturday, February 1
9 am to Noon
Chanhassen High School

This year’s event features author and Minnesota-native, Kristin Tripathy.

During her teaching career, Kristin developed a love for children’s books and realized the value and role that they can play while teaching the craft of writing. By studying children’s authors, she was able to identify beneficial ways to teach basic tenets of good writing and at the same time foster a love of reading and storytelling in children.

Kristin realizes the importance for children to be able to recognize themselves in the books that are read. Children need to identify with the characters and also see representative characters in the literature. Therefore, My Friend, Mi Amigo (English/Spanish) was written and published along with My Friend, Mera Dost (English/Hindi.) These books offer opportunities that embrace diversity in a fun, playful and meaningful manner and encourage oral language development as well.

Hooked on Books…and the Arts, too! is a community-wide celebration in support of literacy and the arts. The event integrates literacy and the arts in an imaginative and innovative way through activities, performances, and books by local authors.  The annual event is a partnership between Eastern Carver County Schools Community Education and the Carver County Library.

This is the 15th annual Hooked on Books event.
