District Goals 2009-2010
Student Achievement For purposes of this document, the term "FOR students" refers to students from families who qualified for the free or reduced lunch program.
- Increase percentage of students (FOR and non-FOR combined) taking advanced courses (Accelerated, Advanced, Advanced Placement, College in the Schools, and Honors classes) from 70.6% to 77%.
Increase % AP exams taken for AP courses from 68% to 75%.
Increase % of students passing AP tests from 68% to 75%
- Increase percentage of FOR students taking advance courses (Accelerated, Advanced, Advanced Placement, College in the Schools, and Honors classes) from 43% to 47%.
Increase % of AP exams taken by FOR students from 2% to 10%.
Increase % of FOR students passing AP exams from 29% to 75%.
- Following the rating used by Newsweek magazine to identify the "Best High Schools in America," develop an index dividing the number of Advance Placement exams taken by the number of graduating seniors.
2007-08: 469 AP exams taken/604 graduating seniors = 0.777
2008-09: 622 AP exams taken/580 graduating seniors = 1.07
2009-10 Goal: 1.25

Increase percentage of students attending school 95% of the time or more from 74% to 80%.
- Develop comparison matrix showing MCA performance and ACT test score performance of District 112 students versus student MCA performance and ACT test scores in other Lake Conference schools. District 112 goal will be to be number one among the Lake Conference schools in all MCA categories and in average ACT test scores.
The above chart represents data that has been published as of 9/24/09. As more data becomes available, it will be added to the chart.
- Using Edina Public Schools as the comparison district, set a three year goal of District 112 achieving student scores in MCA tests and the ACT test equivalent to or better than those of students in Edina Public Schools.
Excellent Teaching
- Increase the number of classroom teachers who are persons of color from 8 to 12.
- Increase number of teachers with advanced degrees from 503 to 525.
- Pursue, along with designated persons from the Chaska Education Association, a mutually agreed to definition of the term "Distinguished Teacher."
Rigorous Curriculum
Engage 100% of all district students in at least one service learning project (which meets the district approved definition of service learning) during the course of the school year.
Complete year one phase in of curriculum re-design plans and identify plans for year two.
Complete the "Inspire" program planning discussions at the elementary grade levels and present a set of preliminary recommendations for board consideration.
Safe, Nurturing Environment
- Work with building administrators and athletic/activities directors to define the terms "club" and "activity" and to define a guideline for what constitutes "participation" in such a club or activity.
Having done so, establish baseline data for the current number of students participating in clubs and activities.
Similarly, identify baseline data for the number of FOR students currently participating in sports and co-curricular activities and clubs.
- Develop a baseline measure, using data already available, that quantifies incidents of bullying, violence and similar inappropriate activity (whether in schools, on playing fields or on buses) and that enables the board to set goals and measure progress on reducing such incidents in future years.
- Work with staff, school resource officers and other appropriate individuals or agencies to develop a district standard (consistent applied in all schools) for dealing with students involved in behavior that requires imposition of formal consequences but that falls short of the threshold of criminal conduct.
Following board approval, communicate the board's expectations regarding implementation of the district standard to all law enforcement agencies providing SRO services to the district.
Prudent Management of Public Resources
- Using Lakeville and Farmington public schools as comparison districts and the "cost-effectiveness index" we have developed for this purpose, measure the effectiveness of our use of financial resources in delivery of educational program.
2006-07 - District 112 $9.63 less than Farmington
$7.34 higher than Lakeville.
2007-08 - District 112 $13.98 less than Farmington
$0.02 less than Lakeville
2008-09 - District 112 $2.98 less than Farmington
$10.87 higher than Lakeville
2009-10 - District 112 Goal: Maintain an index amount lower than both of the comparison districts
