Chaska High School Alternative
Program Classes
Do you ever feel like your mainstream class goes too long and you have a hard time keeping track of all assignments? In the Alt. Program, we divide each quarter into three mini-sessions and the day into shorter class chunks, allowing you to help maintain concentration throughout the class and keep track of your assignments better.
The teachers and staff in the Alt. Program have your success in mind, and plan courses that not only fulfill the state and district requirements, but also try to plan classes that help you to use what you learn in the world around you.
While the teachers plan classes that are designed for students who learn at different levels, the students are required to work hard during their time in Alt. School. Students must complete all work for their classes to receive credit for their class, but work with each teacher to ensure that the work meets our high standards.
The classes we teach are the same as what you would find in the mainstream, just taught a little differently. For example, because we shorten our daily schedule into 45 minute classes, a class like American history would become a year long class instead of a semester long. However, you will still earn the same amount of credits (.25). We also try to maintain smaller class sizes, where our classes range from 10-15 students.
How do I join? Admission to the Alternative Program is by application, which you can begin with your counselor. We admit students prior to each new quarter, but due to the overwhelming demand, we sometimes have a waiting list. If you have any questions, please feel free to visit us in the Green House, or contact Barb Loomis at 952-556-7145.
