Classroom Rules / Expectations:

In addition to the rules set forth in the CHS Student Handbook, we focus on safety and sanitation rules.   If a student is behaving in a manner that is inconsistent with safety and sanitation standards, the student will first be warned.  Second offense will be handled with detention, loss of lab points, and /or a call to parents.  Flagrant offenses may result in asking the student to leave class, withdrawal from class, suspension, and/or parent conference.

Each student is expected to treat themselves, other students, teacher, and classroom property with respect and responsibility.  

 

Attendance / Absences / Tardiness:

Please refer to the policies set forth in the CHS Student Handbook.  Detentions will be issued as a consequence.

Failure to serve detentions will result in loss of credit for the course.

 

Make-up Work / Late Work:

See CHS Student Handbook for policies regarding make-up due to an excused absence.  Late work:  no late work will be accepted for the first half of the quarter after mid-quarter grades have been given.  Points will be docked for late work.  I reserve the right to grant extensions in extenuating circumstances.

Course 1

Course Description: 

1 Quarter Block (1203) .50 credit

Elective:  Grades 10-12

 

Course Content / Objectives:

This course is designed to provide the student with basic skills in culinary arts.  It is a hands-on class where students learn teamwork as they prepare a variety of recipes and gain knowledge of foods, food science, and nutrition.  This course is a prerequisite for all other foods courses.  Foods 1 at the ninth grade level satisfies this prerequisite.
