PSYCHOLOGY OF THE CHILD I 1 Quarter Block .50 Credit Elective: Grades 10, 11, 12 Students will study the prenatal and postnatal development of a child with an emphasis on social, emotional, physical, moral, and intellectual development. The focus will be the child from birth to 3 years of age. Students will have the opportunity to work with small children during the quarter in our classroom. This course must be taken before Psychology of the Child II. |

PSYCHOLOGY OF THE CHILD II 1 Quarter Block .50 credit Elective: Grades 10,11,12 Prerequisite: Psychology of the Child I Learning Area: Inquiry and Research Content Standard: Case Study Psychology of the Child II will focus on the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development of the child from age 4 and beyond. Students will explore careers in the area of child development through job shadowing and participation in the development and facilitation of a 2-3 week simulated preschool within the classroom setting. |

EXPLORING SPECIAL EDUCATION 1 Quarter Block .50 Credit Elective: Grades 10, 11, 12 Learning Area: Physical Education & Lifetime Fitness Content Standard: Career Investigation Students will explore areas of interest in the field of special education while at the same time gain an awareness of differences among individuals with disabilities. The focus of the course will be on developing peer relations and daily living skills through hands-on activities and field trip involvement in the community. Students interested in a career in teaching or working with those who have disabilities are encouraged to take this course. |

TEEN ISSUES 1Quarter Block .50 Credit Elective: Grades 11, 12 Learning Area: Write & Speak Content Standard: Interpersonal Communication The purpose of this course is to present sound, factual, and objective information on issues that are important to teens. Areas of discussion will include: values, decision making, stress, sexuality, mate selection, chemical use, divorce, and abusive behavior. |
