Classroom Policies:

 

Classroom Rules / Expectations: No food or drink, other than water, is allowed.  No cell phones. No headphones.  Students are expected to be on time with required supplies. Students are expected to be attentive and active learners. 

 

Tardies:  Students are expected to be in the classroom when the tardy bell stops ringing.  1st and 2nd tardy each quarter: The student and teacher will discuss measures to prevent future tardiness.  3rd and subsequent tardies will result in 30 minutes of detention.

 

Make-up Work / Late Work: It is the responsibility of the student to find out what work was missed during an absence. The time frame for completing makeup work is listed in the Student’s Rights and Responsibilities handbook.  No credit is given for late work.

Algebra 2

 

Course Description: Algebra 2 will expand and reinforce concepts learned in Algebra 1 as well as introduce new topics.  Specific topics include linear and quadratic functions, powers and roots, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomials, sequences and series, and probability and statistics.

 

 

 

Textbook & Other Materials: Algebra 2 by Prentice Hall.

A graphing calculator is required (TI 83+ or similar  is recommended).

 

Assessments & Grading: Daily work: 25% of each quarter’s grade. No credit is given for late work. 

                                             Quizzes: 25% of each quarter’s grade (quizzes are announced and come from daily assignment exercises. The lowest quiz score each quarter is                 dropped.)

                                            Tests:  50% of each quarter’s grade.  All tests are cumulative.  After completing test corrections, any student may take a retest.  Retests must be done within   one week of the original test being passed back.  The scores of the original test and the retest will be averaged together.

Precollege Math

Course Description: Precollege math is designed for college bound seniors with intended majors outside of math or science.  Students will study math concepts and applications to prepare them for a liberal arts college math requirement.  Specific topics will include problem solving, set theory, logic, number theory, equations and inequalities, graphs, functions, linear systems, consumer math, financial management, measurement, geometry, discrete math, and statistics.

 

 

 

Textbook & Other Materials: Thinking Mathematically by Robert Blitzer.

 A graphing calculator is required ( TI 83+ or similar is recommended).

 

Assessments & Grading: Daily work: 10% of each quarter’s grade. No credit is given for late work. 

                                             Quizzes: 30% of each quarter’s grade (quizzes are announced and come from daily assignment exercises. The lowest quiz score each quarter is                 dropped.)

                                            Tests:  60% of each quarter’s grade.   After completing test corrections, any student may take a retest.  Retests must be done within  one week of the original test being passed back.  The scores of the original test and the retest will be averaged together.

Course Description: Precalculus is designed to give students the necessary background to be successful in calculus.  Specific topics will include functions and graphs, trigonometry, polar coordinates, conic sections, vectors, sequences and series, limits, and introduction to derivatives.

 A graphing calculator is required (TI 83+ or similar is  recommended).

 

Assessments & Grading: Daily work: 10% of each quarter’s grade. No credit is given for late work.

AP Calculus AB

Course Description: This course is designed to prepare students for the AP Calculus AB exam. Major concepts include limits, derivatives, definite integrals, and indefinite integrals. The course emphasizes a multi-representational approach to calculus with concepts, results, and problems expresses geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally.  This is an academically challenging course that maintains a rigorous pace and requires a lot of time outside of class for homework and study.  To be successful it is important to stay current on assignments.  Please seek out assistance in a timely manner on material that is causing difficulty.
