Searching the Internet

The Internet is a network of networks, linking computers to computers. There is a way to make your search more effective called "Boolean Searching". This means using key words and special combinations to make your search effective.

Search Engines look through all the Internet information and search for the keyword or words you direct it to find.

Let's explore this idea, imagining that we are researching comets:

Use the word AND between keywords:

comets AND defined

Use a plus sign + between keywords:

comets + defined

Use quotation marks to identify words and phrases:

"comets" + definition
