6th Grade ART WORKSHEETS

Let's take a trip!!

The sixth grade art curriculum is designed to teach students about art history, art appreciation, and culture over a span of time that begins in the cave paintings at Lascaux, France and ends with the stain glass windows of the the great European Cathedrals.  In the middle we make stops in countries like ancient Persia to study their guardian statues, Egypt to study hieroglyphs and sarcophagi, then we move to Greece where we learn about the Gods and Goddesses of Mt. Olympus while creating a ceremonial cup based on their black and red pottery.  The class then moves to Rome where plan cities like Roman engineers, complete with amphitheaters and bath houses.  From Rome we take a trip north to look at the Book of Kells and learn about printmaking,  we then end our trip in France with their stain glass windows.  After this strenuous itinerary the students will be well versed in the visual vocabulary of art and will have a rich collection of historical- and cultural-based projects to take home.

Grading:

Grading in the quarter length class is based on the completion of a list of objectives.  This list includes participation, completion of the project, neatness of the project, and following directions to complete a checklist of items.
