Pre-reading Strategy: Asking Questions
Before you begin a new story, look at the title. Explore any pictures or illustrations. Check and see if there is a summary on the back of the book. Begin to set your purpose by asking questions. Use the questions words:
Who?
What?
Where?
When?
Why?
How?
As you ask yourself a variety of questions, your
brain will begin to activate its ability to continue asking and answering questions
as you read. This process is called “metacognition”.
