QUESTION
- Turn
main/sub topics in boldface type into questions (use who,
what, when, where or why).
- Determine
your reading rate and the number of times to read the
selection. (This is based on the difficulty of the
text.)
- Take
any unanswered questions to class after completing the
reading.

READ
- Actively
read to answer the questions; become involved.
- Get
details and supporting examples.
- Highlight,
underline or write important facts after reading one section.
- Note
sequence/order, if important.
- Visualize
as you read--make it real.

RECITE
- At
the end of each section, stop to silently or orally answer
original questions.
- For
long-term understanding, recite aloud.
- Use
your own words.
- Jot
down cue phrases.
- Quiz
yourself immediately on what you’ve just studied.

REVIEW
- If
you cannot recite main ideas/details of each section, reread
it.
- Relate
one section of the reading assignment to another to develop a
whole picture.
- Write
a summary, including main ideas (graphic organizer).
- Make
a study guide/sheet.
