The BEACON COUNCIL supports the education of all learners by advocating and promoting cultural awareness, understanding, and equitable practices. The mission shall be accomplished by:

Creating a culturally competent school community that is welcoming and respectful to all

Structuring learning that prepares learners for a successful future in a global society

 Advocating through collaboration and leadership within the communities throughout the District

Who can be involved?

The BEACON COUNCIL representatives will include a group of staff, students, and community members reflective of the diversity of our communities. Council members are expected to be committed to the district’s diversity initiative; respected in the community; open to diversity of thought; on a path of personal growth in cultural competence; willing to commit to the time requirements; champions of diversity; models of cultural competence; able to communicate about diversity issues and representative of the disparate voices within the district.
