Kindergarten Options at Eastern Carver County Schools
All Preschool Aged Children will Receive Registration Materials in Early January! Enrolling your child in kindergarten marks an important milestone in your child's educational journey. The Kindergarten Program at Eastern Carver County Schools offers half and all-day programs that nurture your child and stretch them academically. We give each child the opportunity to discover and learn through participating, observing and experimenting - and they have fun doing it! Kindergarten provides exposure to concepts and skills in a wide range of curriculum areas. We introduce children to practical knowledge and skills and help them to analyze and evaluate the world by providing experiences that promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Half-day kindergarten at the Kindergarten Center Most of our kindergarten students attend school at the Kindergarten Center in Chaska every day for one-half of the day. Our half-day program gives students the foundation they need to meet the academic goals for first grade. Your child's assignment to morning or afternoon kindergarten depends on your child's bus pick-up and drop-off location. While there are a few exceptions, morning or afternoon assignments are determined by attendance areas:
We also offer an outstanding all-day kindergarten program. Students enrolled in this program experience the same kindergarten curriculum in more depth through the year. The 6 1/2 hour program is voluntary and parents pay tuition. All kindergarten students receive free bus transportation to and from school. The annual tuition for all-day kindergarten for 2012-13 is $3,600. All-day kindergarten is offered at Bluff Creek Elementary, Chanhassen Elementary, Chaska Elementary, Jonathan Elementary, Victoria Elementary and at the Kindergarten Center.
Next fall marks the beginning of a new all-day dual language program at the Kindergarten Center. Students enrolling in La Academia will receive instruction in both English and Spanish beginning in kindergarten through at least grade 5. At the kindergarten level, 90% of instructional time in core academic classes will be in Spanish; 10% in English. As children progress through the grades, the percentages shift until both languages are taught 50% of the day. La Academia addresses the same academic standards as our all-English kindergarten program. Teachers are licensed elementary teachers proficient in Spanish and English. As a dual language immersion program, each class will include at least one-third Spanish-speaking students and at least one-third English speaking students. All students will have the opportunity to model their own language as they learn another language. La Academia is an all-day kindergarten choice and is located at the Kindergarten Center. Tuition is $3,600. Anticipated hours are from 9:20 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Transportation will be provided at no cost to families. The first year enrollment will be limited to two sections of students. We intend to grow the program slowly to ensure quality at every level.
