District to analyze enrollment and facility needs

Last year and this school year, student enrollment exceeded projections. On the first day of school this fall, enrollment was 9645, 200 students over last year and 100 students over prediction. Enrollment is crucial data for planning and so Eastern Carver County Schools will conduct a formal study. DeeDee Kahring, director of finance and operations, shared with the School Board at its meeting last week she will soon hire a firm to conduct an enrollment study. Enrollment projections help the district plan staffing at schools, provide curriculum resources for students, and identify facility needs, and long-term maintenance. The study is expected to be completed in the next few months. Kahring’s department will then conduct a study of district facilities to see how existing facilities match with projected student enrollment. Both reports will be shared with the board after they are... Continue reading District to analyze enrollment and facility needs

Thanking our colleagues with #ECCSGratitude

On Monday and Tuesday, Eastern Carver County Schools employees are encouraged to share expressions of gratitude for their school, their colleagues and the students and families they serve. Recounting the good things we have in life is a proven way to bolster our own happiness. And we can make someone’s day brighter by sharing our positive thoughts about them and their work. The district is running a social media campaign aimed at employees to let them know how much they are appreciated. Employees who use Twitter are encouraged to post their message/image of gratitude with the hashtag #ECCSGratitude. Communications Department staff will curate these messages to broadcast on TV monitors set up in our schools for this purpose. Employees who do not use Twitter can email their message to the Communications Department (include a photo, if you’d like) and staff will post to Twitter on your behalf. Next week, you may see TV monitors in school displaying these messages. The district will... Continue reading Thanking our colleagues with #ECCSGratitude

Students Paint Mural at La Academia

Working with Greta McLain, of GoodSpace Mural Studio, La Academia students helped design and create a bright, lively mural for their school. The students started by sharing their visions for themselves, their school and the community. With these stories and visions, the artist-in-residence made a plan, and with guidance, the students designed and painted sections of the mural using traditional patterns found in Latin American art. The artwork that now lives on the walls of the front entrance of the school is a beautiful symbol of community and collaboration and warmly welcomes students, staff, and visitors to La Academia....
