District 112 students continue to score above state averages
District 112 students continued to do well on the state's Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment II (MCA II). Results, released July 29, show the percentage of District 112 students scoring at or above proficiency is higher than the state average at every grade level.
The state tests measure student proficiency in meeting high, rigorous standards in math and reading. This is the second year the new, more rigorous standards have been in place.
"I think our results show steady progress in our goal of moving more students to proficiency," said Cathy Gallagher, K-12 curriculum coordinator. "These tests are one of many measures we use to assess student achievement."

District 112 will continue to strengthen math and reading instruction at all grade levels. Steps already taken include:
- Increased professional development and training in presenting standards-based curriculum and then assessing student progress toward proficiency
- Intervention programs aimed at students who would benefit from additional instruction in math and/or reading
- Increased numbers of staff assigned specific professional development responsibilities at all levels
- Training to enable teachers to plan and pace instruction based on state and national standards
- Using the results of other testing to offer more immediate feedback on individual student growth in math and reading during the year.
"We will use the results of the MCA tests as one guide for the placement of the state standards in our curriculum," Ms. Gallagher said. "Our 11th grade math results challenge us to investigate. CHS teachers will continue to review these results for insight into ways we can move more students toward proficiency. We won't hesitate to make changes necessary to continue on the path of proficiency for all of our students."
