NewsChan High Drama Department to Perform on January 26 and 27Chanhassen High School's Drama Department is pleased to present the absurdist comedy, Exit the King, by Eugene Ionesco. Produced by the students and directed by staff member Lori Constable, the 35 minute version is Chanhassen's entry into the 2012 Minnesota State High School League's One-act Play contest. Exit the King tells the allegorical story of King Berenger, on the throne for nearly 300 years, in an un-named kingdom. Faced with the decline of his kingdom and personal health, the king is urged by his first wife, Queen Marguerite, to abdicate, something his second wife, Queen Marie, does not support. As we watch the king slowly but surely understand and accept his fate, we realize that we are watching Ionesco's metaphorical tale of any regime which has exceeded its use-by date and the ramifications of holding onto antiquated ideas and beliefs. Students involved both on stage and backstage are: Thomas Buan (2012) as King Berenger, Maria Lisignoli (2012) as Queen Marguerite, Monica Ohnsorg (2012) as Queen Maria, Stephanie Callaghan (2013) as the Doctor, Kenzie Nix (2012) as Juliette and Micah Mills (2012) as the Guard. Production staff includes Jenna Mady (2013) as the stage manager, Shelby Steen (2013) as the ASM and Lighting/Sound designer, with Emma Graunke (2015), Monica Paul (2015), Eileen McIntyre (2015) and Dejia Ford (2015) forming the stage crew. Assisting with technical needs is Barry Nelson, with additional assistance by Michael Doddman. Performances of Exit the King will be in the Chanhassen High School Theatre on January 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door -- $6 for students/seniors and $8 for adults. | ||||||||||||||
