LCD projectors impact classroom learning
We're just a few installations away from having LCD projectors in every District 112 classroom in grades 1-12. Instructional technology coordinators Dan Pelowski and Brian Beresford reported to the School Board last night on the impact this technology is having on instruction. Interviews and surveys show teachers embracing the projectors in multiple ways. In fact, 99% of teachers who responded to the survey said the projectors are a useful instructional tool. The projectors allow teachers immediate connection to online resources. A teacher leading a discussion of Australia's Great Barrier Reef can project real-time views of the area and its weather. Art teachers can bring students to museum collections around the world. District 112 subscribes to multiple online resources including searchable online data bases offering teachers 30-second to 3-minute video clips on subjects relevant to lessons in multiple subject areas. An increasing number of our curriculum materials are online allowing teachers to connect with a page in a textbook, project it for the entire class and work on a task together. Teachers see an increase in student attention, class participation and general interest in classroom activities when the LCD projector is used.

Our attitude toward technology is to provide our teachers with equipment that is truly useful in the instructional process. The cost of this equipment makes it imperative that we choose wisely and for the long-term. The LCD projector is a perfect example of technology worth the price.
