NewsDistrict 112 science scores beat state averagesResults of Minnesota's first state-wide Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment II (MCA II) in science show District 112 students scoring above state averages at all grade levels tested. At 5th grade, 57.5% of District 112 students were proficient compared to 39% of 5th graders statewide. At 8th grade, 46% of District 112 students were proficient compared to 38% of 8th graders statewide. In high school, 56% of District 112 students were proficient compared to 43% of high school students statewide. Cathy Gallagher, curriculum coordinator, said the scores will serve as baseline data to compare future test results. "We will look closely at our results and our curriculum to we have inserted the state standards appropriately and we will work with teachers to strengthen our curriculum if necessary." In recent years, District 112 has taken steps to embed more scientific thinking into the curriculum, as well as increased emphasis on underlying scientific principles as a foundation for learning. | |||||||
