Art 1 Courses

All Art classes at Pioneer Ridge are level one courses. They serve as an introduction or prerequisite for higher level courses at Chaska Senior High School. Each class may only be taken once.
A minimum fee may be charged for some materials and field trips.

 
CERAMICS I – 9010
1 Quarter
Elective

Explore a variety of ways to build in clay! You will create clay objects using several different methods of construction.  Your creations will be fired in a kiln so that they can be used for storing things and eating or drinking.   


Supplies Needed
     A sketch book is required: spiral bound, 9”x12”, 50 pages.

 

 

DRAWING I – 9011
1 Quarter
Elective

Develop and improve your skills in drawing class. Learn tricks and techniques to draw successfully and more realistically. Try out materials for drawing including; pencil, charcoal, India ink, and soft & hard pastels. A great class for the beginner as well as the proficient drawing student!

Supplies Needed
     A sketch book is required: spiral bound, 9”x12”, 50 pages.

 

PAINTING I – 9012
1 Quarter
Elective

An introduction to the world of painting.  Explore the use of acrylic and watercolor painting. You will work with color theory and composition techniques from life and photo resources.

     A sketch book is required: spiral bound, 9”x12”, 50 pages.

 

SCULPTURE 1 – 9013
1 Quarter
Elective

Explore the world of 3-D!
Design and create three-dimensional sculptures that are fun and interesting. You will be using a variety of materials including clay, wire, wood, and found objects.

     A sketch book is required: spiral bound, 9”x12”, 50 pages.

 

USING TECH -
1 Quarter
Freshman Requirement

You will be learning about many of the different features of Microsoft Office and the capability of many of its programs.  You will become more confident in your use of technology as a tool.  Students learn the many features of Word; menu bars, toolbars, draw options, MSPaint, templates, tables, mail merge, use of icons, and short cuts.  You will explore the spreadsheet and graphing utilities in Microsoft Excel.  The Internet will be explored and used as a resource.  You will have an opportunity to create PowerPoint presentations.  Use of the digital camera, scanner, CD burner and LCD projector will be a requirement for several assignments.  The html language and FrontPage will be introduced as students create a web page. Publisher and FinePrint applications will be explored. The skills learned will be useful to you in your other classes.
