There is a growing demand for skilled workers in the manufacturing and trades industry in Carver County. Eastern Carver County Schools was awarded a two-year Youth Skills Training Grant from the MN Department of Labor & Industry to help change the narrative about careers in these fields. New high school curriculum and learning experiences will increase enrollment in the district’s advanced manufacturing programs, increase student exposure to manufacturing careers, and provide opportunities for students to explore and ultimately become gainfully employed in high-demand/high-wage careers.
Eastern Carver County Schools has established a Manufacturing & Trades Advisory Council and a Work-based Learning Council to advise on this important work. Work-based learning includes internships, mentoring, and apprenticeships. Chanhassen and Chaska High Schools recently offered Engineering, Manufacturing and Trades Career Fairs to connect students to local businesses. In addition, the district now partners with 12 local companies that will offer internships to senior students.
