Hooked on Books...and the Arts, too! event will be virtual on Feb. 6

While it’s not safe for us to gather in-person for this annual event this year, we’re still offering students and families ways to celebrate the joy of reading and the arts.

On Saturday, February 6, families can choose from several special video presentations from our keynote author/illustrator duo. Author Trisha Speed Shaskan and author/illustrator Stephen Shaskan met while teaching creative writing and art to elementary school students. Since then they have written and illustrated more than 50 books for children. For the past nine years, they have visited libraries and classrooms where they enjoy sharing their love of writing, art and music. Trisha and Stephen are married and live in Minneapolis with their dog, Beatrix.

This year’s virtual Hooked on Books event will include other options for families to enjoy – from ethnic dance to musical performances and an online book review. Children can learn how to create their own special art project with simple items you may already have at home, and browse a virtual Elementary Art Gallery comprised of special artwork from our district’s eight elementary schools.

On February 6, you’ll find links to all these special offerings and more at eccs.mn/hooked. Learn more about this year’s virtual Hooked on Books event HERE.

Hooked on Books…and the Arts, too! is a community-wide celebration in support of literacy and the arts. The event integrates literacy and the arts in an imaginative and innovative way through activities, performances, and books by local authors.  The annual event is a partnership between Eastern Carver County Schools Community Education and the Carver County Library. This project is made possible with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the people of Minnesota for Library Legacy activities.
