Integrated Arts Academy hosts school educators and administrators from Kentucky

Two Integrated Arts Academy students talk about their experiences at the school

Fifteen members of the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children (www.kecsac.org) visited and toured Integrated Arts Academy on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) handpicked IAA for their implementation of innovative and supportive learning environment in an alternative education setting.

KECSAC is a legislatively created state agency in Kentucky that works with school districts across their state to provide educational services for children and youth who are in the care or custody of the Commonwealth and being served in alternative education programs. The collaborative membership has previously visited schools in Denver, Indianapolis, and Boston, to learn from state leadership as well as school-based leaders.

IAA was one of three alternative schools in the Twin Cities that was selected by MDE for a visit and tour.

Principal Angie Charboneau-Folch, now in her fifth year at IAA, along with school counselor Brie Nelson and students Dakota Brodbeck and Will Plihal, led the school presentation and eventual tour of the art, science, and culinary classrooms.
