Graduating students at Chanhassen High School and Chaska High School in 2022 have been recognized by the state of Minnesota for their proficiency in multiple languages. As part of the Minnesota Bilingual Seals program, these students demonstrated a high level of ability to speak, listen, read, and write in both English and another language. Eastern Carver County Schools has long celebrated the teaching of other languages through strong programs at the middle and high school levels, where learners can currently take courses in Spanish, French, German, and American Sign Language. In addition, ECCS also honors and celebrates learners who have acquired multiple languages through their families, particularly through the Dual Immersion program that starts at La Academia Elementary School and continues through high school.
Bilingualism is an asset in our contemporary global economy regardless of the career path a learner chooses. Bilingual students typically have developed greater cultural competence than their peers and are better positioned to work and live with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. These awards recognize the achievements of these learners and signal to colleges and universities that they could be offered college credit.
